The Manchester Amateur Sunday Football League (MASFL) is delighted to announce that plans to amalgamate with the Hyde, Oldham & District Sunday Football League (HODSFL) have proceeded to the next stage.
Recently, the HODSFL approached our League Chairman proposing an effective merger between our two leagues. Following discussions, the League Management Committee was called to an EGM on the 11th March 2025. There, they unanimously carried the motion to propose this merger to the league’s member clubs.
This evening, the 19th March 2025, the League Management Committee and all of MASFL’s member clubs were thus called to an EGM. There, they unanimously carried the motion to proceed to merge with the HODSFL. This was a democratic process, whereby all member clubs were informed of the proposal and were given the opportunity to discuss, raise any concerns and ask any questions.
Similarly, the HODSFL’s member clubs also passed the motion to proceed with the merge in a democratic vote.
In short, both MASFL and HODSFL are undertaking works to merge for the 26/27 season onwards. We cannot wait to get started!
Understandably, this is a significant change. However, it is one that is being made in the face of a grassroots game that is rapidly evolving in all facets. Over the course of the coming months, both League Management Committees will meet to decide upon the future of the leagues structure, identity, committees and all the other details that will need fine tuning. This is not an easy process, but a challenge we relish!
At present, any team interested in joining us for the forthcoming season can get in touch on the ‘Join Us’ page, where you can enquire about our Open Age and Over 35s Divisions.
This is not just a merger of two leagues. It is a merger of two groups of people who have grassroots football at the forefront of their mind, and strive to improve the experience of those in Greater Manchester and surrounding areas with every decision they take.
So, get on board with us for the 26/27 season, and keep your eyes peeled for further updates!
