League Update: September & October

The first two months of the 25/26 Season are now complete, and it’s been an exhilarating start to proceedings.

Mikey Williams Premier Division

Eight teams have been battling it out, with AFC Mancunians currently topping the table on twelve points after five games played. Their victories have been hard fought, including tight score lines against fierce opposition, most recently beating Old Trafford Athletic Firsts 6-5.

Wythenshawe FC are in a close second place, claiming ten points, also across five games. Meanwhile, South Manchester Athletic are on a solid nine points after just three games, pitching them into third place with ample opportunity to progress.

At the other end of the table, Dawn Court United have taken just three points from their opening six games, placing them eighth in the table. This is not to say their games haven’t been closely fought, as their close games have seen them potentially be unlucky not to have taken more from the beginning of the season.

Just above them, Old Trafford Athletic Firsts and North Manchester Kaizer’s also find themselves on three points, in seventh and sixth places respectively. However, they have each played four games and goal difference sees them take a reprieve from the bottom of the table.

Mike Goldstone Division One

Bredbins FC XI top the second tier of the league, claiming twenty-one points from seven games, including an astounding 16-1 victory over Old Trafford Athletic Reserves. This seasoned yet young team may appear to be running away with the competition, but they are facing fierce competition from second placed Burton Road.

The Road are on an equal twenty-one points, claiming this over eight games. This has included a 13-0 victory over Old Trafford Athletic Reserves. An impressive start to the season means the title race could be decided by a margin of goals – hence every game counts, even this early in the season!

The middle of the table sees a fairly even distribution of points and games played, creating a level playing field. New entrants to the league, such as Reddish North End Albion, appear to be holding their own against established groups. This lays a solid foundation for a third competitor to accelerate, and challenge for the title later in the season.

Finally, Longford Athletic find themselves struggling this season. They are second from bottom, taking just three points from eight games. They are however, held from twelfth place by Old Trafford Athletic Reserves, who are yet to take any points from their six games, harbouring a -41 goal difference at the time of writing.

This closely fought division is nowhere near over yet, in fact it’s barely beginning!
